The news concerns, as people say, «tipping». I already wrote on the pages of this blog what a service fee is, you can refresh your memory. Whether this is good or bad, I will speak at the end of the article, but for now the actual news itself.
Payment of service fee
Serving guests to the highest standards of excellence is one of MSC Cruises’ highest priorities. During the cruise, guests are greeted by many MSC staff who provide excellent service. Also, another large part of the team works around the clock so that passengers can enjoy every minute of their stay on board the ship.
Service fee is a mandatory and integral part of the cost of the cruise.
Previously, a service fee could be paid both at the time of booking and on board during the cruise. There is no service charge for children under 2 years old (age at time of cruise).
From July 13, 2023, the service fee must only be paid When booking a cruise, payment on board is not possible.

This news has two sides to the coin. Let’s start with the negative point. Now the original cost of the cruise will increase, that is, tips will be included immediately. Previously, you could refuse to pay a tip on board with a justified explanation of your dissatisfaction. Well, you never know, there are those who are dissatisfied with this fairy tale, can you imagine…
Now for the good stuff. Despite the slight increase in price, you will no longer have to worry about paying a service fee. Enabled by default. For many cruise lines, this has always been the rule and the responsibility of the passenger. There is no option to refuse to pay a tip and that’s good. People try so hard for us, they lick us, one might say, and they fully deserve a reward.
