Wardrobe and necessary things on a sea cruise

So. In previous articles, we decided which cruise company and ship suited us best, and chose a comfortable cabin for ourselves. It’s time to find out what you need to take with you from your wardrobe, how it is customary to dress on a given occasion (dress code).

What household items can be useful on a sea cruise, and what things should not be taken with you? These recommendations will help a beginner not to overpay for extra kilograms of luggage during flights, not to forget really important things and simply not to carry unnecessary things with you around the world.

Wardrobe for a sea cruise.

We take clothes for a sea cruise about the same as for staying at a resort in a hotel. Depending on the star rating of the hotel and the planned events, we collect our wardrobe.

On the ship you will find no less pleasant uniforms and types of relaxation than in a star hotel, which means your clothes should match.

Let’s divide all clothes into three categories:

  1. Evening outfit
  2. Clubwear
  3. Beach suit

This applies to both the male and the fair half of humanity.

Dress code on board

Every day on the cruise ship the dress code for the next day is announced. You can find out about it from the daily on-board newspaper, where all upcoming events will be indicated.

The dress code is especially strictly adhered to on Premium and Luxury class ships. Cruise companies of the “Standard” class are more democratic in the personal choice of clothing for vacationers.

Of course, you won’t be allowed into the restaurant in shorts and flip-flops, but you shouldn’t wear club clothes either. Be elegant, respect the captain and the surrounding public!

On an eight-day cruise, you will have a couple of formal evenings, one of which is usually the captain’s reception (captain’s ball).

You will also attend theater productions and shows, concerts, casinos, cigar and other clubs, all of which require evening attire. As a rule, this dress code is established from 18 o’clock.

Short shorts and a swimsuit are only allowed in the pool area. Long shorts, T-shirts, polo shirts, sundresses, skirts, blouses are perfect for moving around the ship.

Club suits are suitable for your everyday wardrobe. Comfortable, comfortable clothes and shoes. Things “as if for sports and active recreation,” but aristocratic and of good quality, without going too far with sneakers and other “Adidas.”

Women’s wardrobe

Evening outfit. Two or three evening dresses for balls, perhaps a pantsuit for concerts and restaurants, as well as one floor-length dress for cocktails and photo shoots is quite enough. It will be ideal if you can choose one matching pair of shoes for all these outfits.

Club or casual wear. Comfortable, light clothing for moving around the ship and going on excursions. Particular attention should be paid to shoes here. It should be light, comfortable and at the same time reliable and strong. It is unlikely that you will be able to send torn sandals for repair. Wedges, sneakers or something like that — that’s it. After all, you will have to walk a lot, and perhaps not everywhere on asphalt, for example, on the islands of Greece.

Beach suit. The water in some pools is highly chlorinated, do not take very expensive swimsuits with you, it can be ruined. Headdress such as a Panama hat or hat, pareo, flip-flops, sunglasses.

Men’s wardrobe.

Evening outfit. Tuxedo with bow tie or formal suit with tie. Light shirt. An option with a vest or jacket in dark colors is possible. Nice shoes.

Club or casual wear. Shorts, jeans, light trousers, T-shirts, polos, short sleeve shirts — all this is suitable for moving around the ship and visiting excursions. Also comfortable, light and at the same time durable shoes.

Necessary things on a sea cruise

We need a lot of small things in everyday life, a ship is no exception.

First Aid Kit

Modern ships are equipped with medical stations, and we buy insurance for the duration of the cruise, but it is still worth remembering that we are surrounded by water and replenishing supplies is not always possible.

I’m talking about individual medications that you take daily, it’s worth having the necessary supply. It wouldn’t hurt to have a small supply of first aid supplies in your personal first aid kit, don’t forget the plaster.

Chargers and gadgets

If you are going to capture the wonderful moments of your trip, then do not forget a camera, video camera, smartphone, or whatever you are used to using, and most importantly — charger for it.

Shore Bag

This should be a small bag that can fit a camera, wallet, water bottle, and cosmetic bag. Well, you won’t go on excursions with a suitcase)). Add another plastic bag in case you buy souvenirs and things.

Plastic bottles

Buy a soft drink somewhere in the supermarket and save the bottles. Water is very expensive, but on the ship you can fill your container with a life-giving drink and go on another excursion, for example. Or just put it in the refrigerator in the cabin and have cool water on hand.

Seasonal clothing

Research first the route and countries where you are going to go, and specifically pay attention to the weather and precipitation. If it’s cold during the cruise or it’s the rainy season, then of course a jacket and umbrella can come in handy. And in general, you should always have one warm jacket or sweater. It can be chilly on the open decks in the evening.

What not to take on a cruise

Heating devices are prohibited on the ship. Boiler, hairdryer, electric kettle and samovar — leave it at home! A hairdryer is provided in your cabin’s bathroom, and tea and coffee are provided at the buffet catering facility.

Alcoholic drinks

Most cruise lines do not allow alcohol on board the ship. This is how the bars on the ship make money. Bottles with “dead water” can be collected from you and returned only at the end of the cruise. Of course, experienced cruisers have their own tricks in this regard, but I won’t mention it.

In conclusion, I would like to note that this article is not mandatory, but recommendatory. Decide what to fill your wardrobe of course, and you will blush later too. But I think it’s worth listening to my advice and recommendations from experienced cruisers.
