I introduced you to the current favorite, proudly bearing the title of the world’s largest cruise ship, in the previous review. And what looms on the horizon? Who is the next champion? The championship of “the very, the very” will be intercepted very soon by another cruise liner.
At the end of 2023, Royal Caribbean International plans to launch the largest cruise ship in the world, Icon of the Seas. Its construction has been underway since June 2021 at Finnish shipyards. This is the first of three ships in the Icon series. It has 18 passenger decks, and its displacement is 250,800 tons. The debut cruise will take place in December 2023 and then the liner will begin its triumphal march through the Caribbean in January 2024
Perhaps to every description of this giant it is worth adding “the most” — the largest, the most innovative, the most luxurious, etc. By the way, the ship will be one of the first to run on liquefied natural gas.
Infrastructure of the Icon of the Seas
Royal Caribbean embodies the best of family vacations in its ships. Although this is not essential, people of any age and marital status will be very pleased with their sea voyage. Each passenger will remember something different that will be deeply ingrained in their memory.
For this purpose, the ship has not created zones as before, but as many as 8 recreation areas. Five of them with a fundamentally new concept and three already beloved favorites. This is amazing! Let’s get started?
Recreation and entertainment areas — 5 new items
- Chill Island
- Thrill Island
- The Hideaway
- Surfside
- AquaDome
And also 3 districts already loved by tourists
- Promenade with boutiques and restaurants, ice arena
- Central Park with a living garden
- Multi-level sun terrace (3 decks)
District of the Seven Pools Chill Island
The Icon of the Seas cruise ship features 7 swimming pools, 4 of which are located on three decks of paradise. Each of them is simply amazing. These are not ordinary pools in the center of the ship, as was customary to build before. Everyone is located in a place on the ship that offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean or the inner garden of the central park.
The largest swimming pool in the sea, Royal Bay, is amazing in size. Surrounded by bars with delicious cocktails and tonics, comfortable sun loungers and a jacuzzi.
Swim & Tonic is a very vibrant place with a Lions swim up bar. I remembered one hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh, there was also a swimming pool in which you had to swim up to the bar, since it was located in the center of the pool. And there is much more here on the ship. Well, isn’t it a miracle.
Adult pool Cloud 17, Cove Pool with a serene mood and a long length.
Thrill Island Water Park
This is an area for thrill-seekers on the water. 6 water slides of various sizes and inclination angles.
- Hurricane Hunter and Storm Surge family coaster, let families compete in a hovercraft ride.
- Pressure Drop — slide with almost free fall at an angle of 66*, full of adrenaline.
- The highest slide in the sea Frightening Bolt — championship in height of as much as 15 meters.
- For racing on tablets, they came up with a duo of roller coasters called Storm Chasers. I’m sure it’s fun.
A surprise will be a walk at almost fifty meters in height Crown’s Edge.
The Hideaway area
Located in the stern of the liner at an altitude of approximately 45 meters above sea level. A unique infinity pool, as if floating in the air, surrounded by sun-filled terraces, several bars and places for outdoor relaxation.
Imagine that you are in this pool with a cocktail in your hands, and your gaze falls on your favorite trace of the ship’s progress and the blue sky with the ocean.
Surfside family area
This area is completely suitable for families for cruising with children. Don’t be torn to please your child and yourself. There are 2 children’s water parks, Baby Bay and Splashaway Bay, and adults can relax nearby in the Water’s Edge pool.
There are also wonderful recreation areas, a bar and a restaurant within walking distance. And also a couple of children’s clubs for children, one for kids, the second for teenagers. No one will be bored.
AquaDome entertainment place
This area is located in the upper bow of the Icon of the Seas. All services are located under a huge dome. During the day, you can have a snack in one of the restaurants, admire the wonderful panoramic views, and sit by the huge fountain.
In the evening the area is transformed. A magnificent water show in the modern AquaTheater will delight you with an unforgettable program. Royal Caribbean uses the latest technology to perform at the highest level.
Incredible lighting with modern projection, robotic manipulators, a transformable swimming pool and much more take passengers’ relaxation to a different level of comfort and entertainment. As in the daytime, you can still have a snack and drink.
Variety of cabins
Just imagine, there are as many as 28 cabin categories on the Icon of the Seas cruise ship. From the smallest to the three-story family townhouse, as they say, there is something for every taste and budget. Comfort is present everywhere, no matter what type of cabin you choose.
The video from Royal Caribbean International will show the main points in vivid colors, although in English, but you can turn on subtitles and choose Russian translation.
