This is perhaps the most popular route in this region of Europe. My first trip of this kind was a Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona. It is so popular that some of my friends have been to approximately the same countries and cities several times (4-5), only variations have changed. This attraction is not very clear to me, when many things on the planet have not yet been seen. Although I give myself an explanation for this phenomenon — territorial proximity and affordability.
If you are planning to go on your first cruise, I recommend this route. “Mediterranean Classics” covers 4 countries and 6 cities. All states and cities are very interesting, primarily from a historical perspective. Lovers of European cuisine will also have something to please themselves with.
The cruise is comfortable and notable for the following:
- Several departure ports, Genoa, Naples, Messina, Barcelona, Marseille;
- Chic new liner MSC World Europa;
- There are arrivals with a Russian-speaking group and a representative of the tour operator.
Classics of the Mediterranean cruise itinerary
I’ll show you a version of this route departing from the Italian city of Genoa, you can choose another.
The thing is that if you don’t have a Schengen visa, you will have to get an Italian one, since you will spend the most days in this country.
So, you have arrived in Italy. We reached Genoa, if we have time, we saw the sights, and at 16 o’clock the ship was already leaving the port.
Palazzi dei Rolli
Staglieno Cemetery
Via Garibaldi
At lunchtime the next day you arrive in Naples and you have 7 hours to get acquainted. I really liked this ancient city. Main attractions within walking distance.
You will enjoy the excursion to Mount Vesuvius to the remains of the city of Pompeii.
Next stop Messina. A small, ancient and very cozy town. We walked almost all of it. The main thing is to have a map at hand. Or they offer bus excursions right at the port. You have 10 hours of time to do everything about everything.
The next morning the liner enters Malta, the city of Valletta. It’s a little far, but a small group of us went up to the old town and walked around it with great pleasure. Impressed. But again, you don’t have to worry and take a tour.
About the cruise ship
You will spend the next day on the luxurious cruise ship MSC World Europa, which I wrote about in two articles earlier. After the winter season in the Persian Gulf, she will move to the Mediterranean Sea and operate “Classics of the Mediterranean” cruises. By the way, my choice to review this cruise was precisely because of this liner. You will find simpler ships, I think yourself.
In the morning, the city of Barcelona (Spain) appeared on the horizon. You could talk about this Catalan capital for hours, but you only have 9 at your disposal. There are so many attractions in Barcelona that you will have to choose the best. Or if this is not your first time, look at those that you haven’t visited yet.
Casa Batlló
At 7 am the next day we find ourselves in the port of Marseille (France). There are not many attractions, it is better to take a sightseeing tour by ship or in the port from local travel agencies.
Longchamp Palace
Isle of If
Cathedral of Sainte Marie Major
Arrival at the port of Genoa (Italy)
Visa information and cruise prices
I already wrote about the visa at the beginning of the article. An Italian multiple-entry Schengen visa is required. If you already have such a document, then this is all you need for the cruise “Mediterranean Classics”.
In terms of cost, I will say that it varies for the whole season. For example, at the end of April you can still book an inside cabin from RUB 90,298. for two. And at the peak of the summer season in August, only the cabin type «suite» in the privileged yacht club MSC Yacht Club from half a million rubles and above. You yourself can look and choose a cruise in our database.
Let me emphasize one more advantage — Russian speaking group. This means that not only will there be an employee speaking Russian on board, but all services and excursions will also be in their native language. A representative of the tour operator will supervise everything. Ideal for those who speak little English. By the way, you can improve your English before the cruise here.
I summarize the delights of the Russian-speaking group:
- A representative of the tour operator on board, resolves any issues;
- Informative meetings and lectures about the cruise region;
- Shore excursions in Russian;
- Information in cabins in native language;
- It’s easy to choose dishes in the restaurant, the menu is in Russian;
- One TV channel in the cabin is also in the native language.
If you are already planning a summer vacation and you liked the sea cruise “Classics of the Mediterranean”, then I recommend hurrying up and
