I described the exact route of my cruise, and what attractions can be seen in this or that place, in the article “Mediterranean Sea Cruise from Barcelona”. And today I want to talk in more detail about some of the cities along the route. What was most memorable and impressive. The places I managed to visit.
And specifically I will focus on two cities in Italy and the capital of the Republic of Malta. I dreamed of visiting these places, especially Italy, since childhood. This dream was born in high school, in history classes, studying the Roman Empire.
Italy
The first stop of our ship was in Marseille (France). I didn’t go on excursions, I just walked around the port, so I won’t dwell on this too much. There is a short video with a view of the Cote d’Azur.
On this day it was more interesting for me to explore our luxurious cruise ship Meraviglia.
Naples
Naples pleased us with warm weather. A group of about ten people got off the ship. Right at the port we were met by a large ancient fortress. You will see it and other sights of Naples in the video below. We decided to walk around the area on foot.
After visiting a number of places, including Piazza del Plebiscito, where the Royal Palace of Naples is located, we scattered in all directions.
I found a cozy cafe with Wi-Fi. I took local pizza, beer and immersed myself for half an hour to the World Wide Web. I called home and posted a few photos on Instagram. A common thing for a tourist))
Messina, Sicily
This time we decided to take a taxi and ride around the main attractions of the city of Messina. There were seven of us. We agreed on a price with the cheerful Sicilian and got into his excursion minivan.
I’m with Alexander
The first photos were taken near the Neptune Fountain, a very beautiful place. Then we went up to Temple Christ the King, where there is a very large observation deck over the port. The crowning achievement of our excursion was the Cathedral (Duomo di Messina)
The capital of the Republic of Malta, the city of Valletta
Here a surprise with the weather awaited us. Early in the morning the sun shone through the clouds. I was happy. But a little later, at breakfast, through the huge window of the buffet dining room, I saw huge drops of rain. I already thought that I would spend the whole day on the ship. But literally an hour later the sun was shining and we were already discussing where we would go.
Some of us went on a sightseeing tour, and I and four other cruise lovers went to the city on foot. I should note that not only in Valletta, but also in all the other cities I described above, the main attractions are within walking distance from the seaport.
We walked along the old part of the city. It feels like the whole city is one fortress. We walked through several ancient streets and temples. Everything is imbued with the depth of centuries.
I really liked this type of travel! Now I help people achieve their dreams.
