In the evening our ship sailed from Belgium and already at 7 am moored in the port of the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. According to the schedule, we have to stay here for 24 hours. Usually the liner sails between cities only at night; during the day, passengers go ashore.
In this case, departure is scheduled for 7 am the next day. In a word, we had enough time for the excursion. The Port of Amsterdam is a modern building with many functions. When you enter such terminals you can immediately feel it. I didn’t film the inside, but you’ll see everything from the outside in the video clip.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
I prepared a little for meeting this extraordinary city.
I also bought tickets at home for a pleasure boat along the canals of the capital Netherlands.
It’s not for nothing that Amsterdam is called the Venice of the north.
The city stands on the water and has a complex network of canals.
That’s why I didn’t take a bus tour; it’s much more interesting to look at the city from the water.
These boats operate like excursion (red) buses.
At any stop you can get off and get on again using the same ticket. The ticket is valid for one day.
Svetlana on the streets Amsterdam
During the entire cruise I greatly regretted that I did not speak English only in Amsterdam. After leaving the port, we needed to find a stop for a pleasure boat. Right here I saw similar boats, but from a different company. I approached the driver and showed him my ticket, he gestured that he needed to go further.
We passed, there was another boat there and they also sent us even further in the same direction. In short, we went so far that we lost about two hours. But it turned out that everything is literally next to the port. Well, okay, we took a walk, warmed up and happily boarded the boat.
Architecture of Amsterdam
The 17th century became golden in the history of the country and Amsterdam in particular. The rich artistic heritage, including architecture, dates back to this century.
The narrow houses with pointed roofs reminded us of Bruges, the only difference being the number of floors. In Bruges these are mostly two-storey houses, in Amsterdam there are 4-5 storey buildings.
Like most European cities, bicycles are very popular in Amsterdam and there is a developed network of bike paths.
There is a lot to see in the city. For example, the museum area accommodated:
- Van Gogh Museum
- Rijksmuseum
- Amsterdam City Museum,
If you wish, you can visit the Heineken Beer Museum. The plant moved to the suburbs, and the old part now functions as a museum.
There are also extraordinary establishments that you will not find in any other city in the world. For example, Coffeeshop where they sell marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms. I tried weed. Pass!
Red Light District Amsterdam
Separate topic. Establishments with open windows, where representatives of the ancient profession sweetly lure passing men. We also wanted to look at it.
It looks something like this. On the ground floor of the house, the “priestesses of love” sit in narrow booths reminiscent of a telephone booth. Usually in underwear, and some only in panties.
We walked along the red light street during the day, and at this time there are not very many “night butterflies”. That’s how they explained it to us. Come in the evening, there will be a wide selection. Since the purpose of visiting this street was simply curiosity, in the evening we sat in the restaurant of our wonderful liner.
I read in advance on the Internet that some girls are inadequate. It’s better not to film them with a camera or video camera; they can easily break any gadget. I heeded the advice. But so that you have an idea of what houses with “moths” look like, I found a picture on the Internet.
Canals of Amsterdam
It was a wonderful excursion along the canals of Amsterdam. You could ride for a day on special boats. You get off at the bus stop, walk around and get on the same boat again with the same ticket.
In a word, we took a boat ride along the canals of Amsterdam and walked along the most beautiful streets. The day was great.
As I wrote above, the next morning we sailed from the shores of North Holland and headed for Hamburg, Germany. We should arrive there in a day early in the morning. So we will be at sea all day long.
So the next article will be about our cruise ship MSC Magnifica, and how we spent our time there.
