Four years ago I published an article about Royal Caribbean’s Cocokey private island. It talked about the planned opening in 2019 of this wonderful place in the Caribbean. In the same year, the cruise company MSC Cruises also opened the island of Ocean Cay, which is located in the Bahamas, to its travelers.
Back in 2015, the government of the Bahamas leased an unnamed piece of land to the cruise company MSC under special conditions. After a long period of use of the island as a sand quarry, the ecology of this place suffered significantly and it was necessary to save the situation. The company invested about two hundred million dollars to restore the coastline destroyed by sand mining and the atoll ecosystem as a whole, and then to build the infrastructure of the marine reserve.
Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve
In December 2019, the island welcomed its first guests. Let me clarify that Ocean Cay is intended to be visited exclusively by those tourists who travel on MSC Cruises cruise ships. The full name of this highlight is — Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
From the American port of Miami to Ocean Cay is about 105 km, and its area is 38 hectares. It is here that, dare I say it, the town of MSC is located. Everything here is arranged for comfortable rest and relaxation of travelers.
Uniquely clear water, snow-white coral (aragonite) sand on the beaches, unique flora from the plants of this region — that’s what Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is.
Infrastructure of Ocean Cay Island
