My old dream — take a sea cruise along the Norwegian fjords. There was even an attempt to implement it as part of a cruise in the Baltic and Scandinavia, but to no avail. Well, for those who have the opportunity to fly and have a Schengen visa, I suggest visiting these places next year. The week-long itinerary will be operated by MSC’s newest cruise ship Euribia, which is definitely a nice bonus on the cruise.
Norwegian fjords are very popular among tourists from different countries. And it’s more convenient and comfortable to see them, of course, on a sea cruise. The ship has already sailed this route this summer and has shown great demand and interest in this direction. MSC will continue to operate cruises on the Norwegian fjords in 2024.
A few words about what fjords are. These are sea bays that go far into the interior of the mainland, peninsula or island. The bays are relatively small in width, sometimes reaching hundreds of kilometers in length. The shores are usually framed by high cliffs with dense vegetation or snow caps. Melt water flows from some of them, forming waterfalls of unique beauty.
Norwegian Fjords cruise route
Departure and arrival. You can choose between two northern European cities — Kiel (Germany) and Copenhagen (Denmark).
Keel. Boarding the ship until 19:00, and before that you can admire the local attractions. The city is ancient and is the capital of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
On the second day we arrive in the capital of Denmark — city of Copenhagen. An even more ancient European city. Founded around the 13th century, the first mention dates back to the 11th century. I really like the gothic architecture of Scandinavia and northern Europe.
The third day of the cruise ship is spent at sea and you will have the opportunity to leisurely explore the ship with all its ultra-modern infrastructure.
On the fourth day of the cruise, you will enter the first Geirangerfjord and stop in the town of Hellesylt, Norway. Stay at the port for 11 hours, take a walk or take a tour.
The next day, dock at the port of Ålesund, Norway. Here you will also have the whole day at your disposal — 10 hours.
The second and largest Sognefjord will take you to the city of Flåm, Norway. You have 10 hours for walks and excursions.
Before arriving in Kiel, you will once again have a full 24 hours to visit your favorite spots on MSC’s newest cruise ship, Euribia.
Fjords on this cruise
As I mentioned above, you will have the opportunity to visit two fjords:
- Geirangerfjord
- Sognefjord
Geirangerfjord is considered the most popular and very beautiful among tourists; it is also called the royal fjord. It is relatively small, its length is 20 km, but there are picturesque places at every turn.
Sognefjord is the largest and deepest in Norway, and it is also the second largest in the world, after Greenland’s Scoresby. The length of the Sognefjord is 204 km, and the depth of the bay is 1.5 km, as well as the height of the rocks surrounding it in some places.
Cruise dates and prices
The cruise ship will operate cruises on this route from June 10 to the end of September. This is the best time to travel to this part of server Europe, it is not so cool.
